About my research

We work on coal, a vital resource for electricity generation and steel production. At CSIR-CIMFR, we conduct research across the entire coal value chain under one roof, supporting Indian coal-based industries. My current research interests focus on: 1. Spontaneous combustion of Coal (for improved safety) 2. Converting Coal to Graphite (for sustainable, value-added utilization)

Current research challenge

We are addressing two key challenges: preventing spontaneous combustion of coal by understanding and predicting its oxidation behaviour, and developing sustainable pathways to convert coal into high-value graphite, enabling value-added utilization of coal resources.

Predicting the Invisible Fire: Science for a Safer Future

Good research creates knowledge but communication creates impact and so every good research should be communicated.

We are particularly interested in collaborations involving coal molecular structure and oxidation, spontaneous-combustion prediction, allied device development, advanced carbon materials, coal-to-graphite conversion, and AI/ML-based modelling. We welcome interdisciplinary collaborations that can connect fundamental understanding with scalable technologies for coal safety, value addition, and sustainable utilization.
