About my research
Dr. Kokatla’s research has established rongalite (sodium hydroxymethanesulfinate) as a versatile, economical, and greener reagent for organic synthesis. His work demonstrates its multifunctional roles as a reducing agent, C1/methylene source, electron-transfer reagent, and single-electron donor. The research has developed transition-metal-free C–H functionalization, C1 homologation, chemoselective reduction, selective dechlorination, fluorination, sulfonylmethylation, aminomethylation, and triazole synthesis. Mechanistic studies provided evidence for rongalite-derived C1 incorporation and ionic reaction pathways. The research also extends to related sulfur-based reagents, establishing a broader platform for sustainable, hydride-free and transition-metal-free synthetic methodologies.
