For several decades, the development of intelligent machines that help humans in various tasks are growing at a very fast pace. A myriad of applications ranging from healthcare to autonomous vehicles are powered by recent developments in artificial intelligence, robotics and drone technology.
To address the technological advancements and their potential, IIT Mandi conducted a Workshop on Healthcare Robotics and Drone Applications (WHRDA) between 27th and 29th May, 2022. As a part of the deliberations in the Workshop, several topics emerged under three main themes: a) Robotics, b) Artificial Intelligence, and c) Drone Technology. Consequent to the WHRDA Workshop, it is proposed to establish a Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (referred to as CAIR) at IIT Mandi.
The CAIR will focus on research on topics concerning Robotics, AI, and Drone technology.
The Centre’s primary objectives are:
To be a leading centre for robotics and AI research in the country, with visible recognition in terms of projects and developing systems useful to society at large.
To contribute to core research aspects in robotics, AI, and drone technology.
To seamlessly integrate with robotics and drone technology to provide AI-based solutions for sensing, learning, and inference.
To provide a stimulating environment to the students, researchers, visitors, and faculty members to carry out world-class research, teaching, and product development in a team, so that the technology can be brought to the household level and reach the needy people who are economically challenged.
To train the next generation of students and practitioners of robotics, AI, and drone technology.
Bridge gap between industry needs and available skills through industry oriented learning- Develop certificate programs for people in industry for hands-on training in the field.
