With the publication of “The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2012 (No. 34 of 2012)” dated June 20, 2012 in the Gazette of India, and Notified on June 29, 2012, the Parliament has declared IIT Mandi to be one of the IITs under the “Institutes of Technology Act, 1961”. From 29 June 2012, this Amendment not only puts IIT Mandi legally on par with the older IITs but also invests IIT Mandi with the legal authority to award degrees.
