The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi will soon have a world class bio/nano-technology experimental facility. Basic synthesis and characterisation equipment is already in place. By mid-2012, the facility will have an NMR and a TEM. Other sophisticated instruments will follow thereafter. A team of nearly 10 young faculty and over 10 research scholars will use the facility under the guidance of the Visiting Distinguished Professor, Prof. Kenneth Gonsalves (the Celanese Acetate Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte). The research focus will be on the development of low-cost organic photovoltaic material, organic LEDs, nano-pharmaceuticals, micro-fabrication for electronics and bio/nano-technology.
On 1st February, the Director Prof. T.A. Gonsalves and Prof. Ken Gonsalves met the Himachal Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal to apprise him of the progress and plans of IIT. The CM assured all support. Click here for a news report in The Tribune.
