The Centre for Human-Computer Interaction (CHCi) at IIT Mandi was established with the strategic oversight and sponsorship of the IIT Mandi iHub and HCi Foundation (iHub). As a Technology Innovation Hub under India's National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), iHub is mandated to enable technology development, skill building, and entrepreneurship in Human-Computer Interaction across the country.
With iHub’s funding and strategic support, CHCi provides a specialized environment for research in Brain-Computer Interaction (BCI). The Centre operates within IIT Mandi, focusing on interdisciplinary research through its core academic programs (Ph.D. and M.Tech). Our work is closely aligned with iHub’s mission to translate laboratory findings into practical neural-interface solutions, leveraging national momentum in the field of BCI.
As the executing arm for BCI research and innovation, CHCi focuses on ground-level execution and practical applications. This partnership between iHub and CHCi combines national mission objectives with technical expertise to advance how humans and digital systems interact through neural activity.
The IIT Mandi iHub & HCi Foundation was established on September 24, 2020, as a Technology Innovation Hub under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), an initiative of the Government of India's Department of Science and Technology (DST). Our mission is to position India as a global leader in Human-Computer Interaction research and development.
As a nodal center for HCi research in India, we facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration between academia, industry, and government agencies. Our strategic framework encompasses translational research, applied technology development, capacity building, and technology transfer to create sustainable impact across multiple sectors.
To advance the science and engineering of intuitive, inclusive, and intelligent human-computer interactions through purposeful, interdisciplinary research.
To lead in human-centered technology by re-defining human-machine interaction with empathetic, accessible and future ready solutions.
