Major Technical Projects (MTP)

About the SCEE major technical project

The major technical project (MTP) is a year-long project taken by B.Tech. students in their fourth year. The MTP is a capstone task which builds upon the previous three years of study taken by a B.Tech. student. It provides an opportunity to students

  • to apply the knowledge gained during coursework studies,
  • to learn and apply organizational and collaborative skills essential for successfully carrying out project goals
  • to learn about advanced concepts and cutting-edge technologies and
  • to contribute in terms of theoretical work, analysis or system development before they embark upon their professional careers.

The MTP can be taken by an individual student or by a team of students. Every MTP has faculty mentors who supervise progress throughout the duration of the project.

MTP evaluation

There are two evaluations of the MTP each semester, a mid-semester evaluation and an end-semester evaluation.

  • 7th semester mid-term evaluation: 30% (E: 90, R: 10)
  • 7th semester end-term evaluation: 70% (E: 85, R: 15)

  • 8th semester mid-term evaluation: 40% (E: 90, R: 10)
  • 8th semester end-term evaluation: 60% (E: 60, R: 30, OH: 10)

E: evaluation, R: report, OH: open house.
The evaluation component is the average of examination committee's assessment and mentor’s assessment.
