WHAT IS HIMALAYAN INNOVATION CHALLENGE?

Himalayan innovation challenge (HIC) is an initiative of IIT Mandi Catalyst to actuate a series of innovative technology based solutions designed specifically to solve social and economic problems in the Himalayan regions of the world. HIC 2019 will bring together a range of individuals and organizations that care about building such solutions and are willing to ideate, deliberate, debate and innovate to this end. IIT Mandi Catalyst will pick handful of most feasible ideas and enable willing innovators/entrepreneurs in prototyping, testing and implementing to create an impact in Himalayan region.

We invite passionate entrepreneurs and innovators with their cutting edge ideas to build solutions for the Himalayan region.

THEMATIC AREAS

Catalyst aims to create impact in a range of relevant areas that bear importance for Himalayan region. There are three tracks in which ideas can be submitted:

Track I
Resources and Sustainability

Natural resource management, Renewable and clean energy, Climate change, Waste management, other relevant themes

Track II
Disaster Management and Safety

Disaster prevention, Mitigation and management, Road safety, other relevant themes.

Track III
Agriculture, healthcare and inclusive growth

Agriculture, Biotechnology, Inclusive healthcare, Financial inclusion, any other area with strong application in Himalayan region.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

Financial and non- financial support to the impactful ideas to be implemented in Himalayan region.

Founder, Wrig Nanosystems

Ambar Srivastava is the founder of a Wrig Nanosystems, an applied research & development organization. Before founding Wrig, Ambar worked extensively in bioelectronics in different assignments and projects in different research labs in India and overseas. He won 'Young Innovator Award' by MIT Technology Review India for novelty and impact of research work. Ambar is a dual degree graduate (Bachelors & Masters) in Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology with focus on electrochemical immune sensing platforms (electrochemical biosensors), from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

HOW TO REACH?

    By Air:
  • The nearest airport to Mandi is the Kullu Airport at Bhuntar, Dharamshala Airport at Gaggal and Chandigarh airport. Flights to Kullu are restricted to only from Delhi, and Shimla.

    • Distance from Bhuntar Airport to Mandi - 75 KM

    • Distance from Gaggal Airport to Mandi - 145 KM

    • Distance from Chandigarh Airport to Mandi - 185 KM


    By Bus:
  • From Delhi or Chandigarh, one can catch the bus from ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminus). There are different varieties of bus facilities from Delhi and Chandigarh - ordinary, deluxe and AC buses. Alternatively, One can also plan to hire a cab or come by personal vehicle.

  • This distance to Mandi can be covered in approximately 12 hrs from Delhi and 6 hrs from Chandigarh (it depends on traffic on the roads or weather conditions) by bus.

    By Taxi:
  • Taxis are stationed outside Mandi main bus stand 24 x 7. The cost of a one-way trip to the IIT campus is about Rs. 600/-


    By HRTC Buses:
  • Himachal Road Transport Corporation/Local buses also ply between Mandi and Kamand. Please note that these buses sometimes can be crowded.
