Himalayan Innovation Challenge (HIC)- 2019 The first edition of Himalayan Innovation Challenge (HIC) was held on May 25-26, 2019 at the IIT Mandi Campus Kamand. HIC 2019 was successful in bringing together a range of individuals and organizations that care about building solutions for the Himalayan Region and are willing to ideate, deliberate, debate and innovate to this end. HIC 2019 was designed to actuate a series of innovative technology-based solutions designed specifically to solve social and economic problems in the Himalayan regions of the world. 32 startup teams out of over 120 applicants were shortlisted to participate in the event. The startups encompassed a range of sectors including cleantech, agro-tech, waste management, renewable energy, road safety, and healthcare participated in the pitch competition for incubation support at IIT Mandi. The teams were awarded cash prizes worth INR 1 Lakhs sponsored by Himachal Pradesh Centre for Entrepreneurship, Dept of Industries, HP.
A Roundtable on Unleashing Potential of Indian Agriculture: Role of Entrepreneurs and Incubators A roundtable discussion was hosted by IIT Mandi Catalyst in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Horticulture development project (HPHDP) on 23rd Feb,2019 with an aim to identify challenges and opportunities in the Indian Agriculture and to promote innovation & entrepreneurship in this sector. The roundtable was attended by officials from District Industry Center (DIC), HPHDP, Agro Entrepreneurs, NGOs engaged in agriculture ecosystem, budding startups in Agritech sector, Agro researchers, officials of Farmer Zone project of IIT Mandi, and the faculty members of IIT Mandi. Participants shared their viewpoints on the role of the incubation center like Catalyst and how can they encourage the new age entrepreneurs to solve existing problems.
Exploration Program, 2019 First “exploration program” of 2019 was launched in Feb,2019 by Mr. Rugved Thakur, Deputy Comissioner at IIT Mandi catalyst. The inaugural session was followed up by a Startups Showcase during which Dignitaries visited the presentation booths of startup teams and engaged in detailed discussion on their ideas and prototypes. Total nine startup teams are enrolled from 7th Feb,2019 wherein Catalyst will be providing training, mentoring and financial support to these startup teams over next three months during which these teams will convert their ideas into prototypes/products.
Himalayan Startup Trek IIT Mandi Catalyst is back with the second edition of 'Himalayan Startup Trek' on April 28-29, 2018. The 2nd edition of HST will have a much larger scale and outreach. In addition to curated panel discussions on varied topics, HST this year will feature ‘MVP Boot-Camp’ for Idea stage startups, ‘Investors’ Den’ for startups looking to raise seed funds, ‘Meet a Mentor’ for one-to-one Q&A with tech-business experts, and ‘tête-à-tête’ with faculty for aspiring entrepreneurs seeking technical guidance. Mentor Series : UX/UI (Web Applications) A two - day long Catalyst workshop on Interaction Design, User Centricity & Designing Web Products was conducted by Ms.Deepika Dutta Kapoor & her co-partner Mr. Vivek Kapoor on 6th & 7th December. Deepika is a design evangelist with 18 years of experience in innovative conceptual design for digital world covering web applications, multi-mobile platforms, emerging devices and wearable products. She is an alumna of Delhi College of Arts and has worked with international teams to identify and improve the User Experience & Design of products and applications.
Mentor Series: Organisation Development A full day workshop on various aspects of Organization Development was delivered by Mr. Saurabh Mittal. He shared insights on topics like building organization culture, team building, self & team motivation, leadership and coaching on 20th November 2017. Mr. Saurabh Mittal is Senior Advisor @ IIT Mandi Catalyst. He is heading Leadership Development and coaching at Fractal Analytics. He has extensive global experience over two decades of working with senior executives in defining strategy, providing thought leadership, creating new business solutions and leading large multicultural, cross-functional teams to implement improved business processes in global businesses.
Showcase at IITF 2017, Delhi Two of Catalyst’s teams, Team MedSamaan & Team 4 Play are showcasing at India International Trade Fair, Delhi from Nov 14 – Nov 27. It is a great opportunity for startups to connect with investors/entrepreneurs and also to get marketing support.
TEDx Dharamshala IIT Mandi Catalyst attended TEDx Dharmshala on 12th Nov,2017 at Dharamshala.Two of our teams showcased at the event. Mr. Saurabh Mittal - Senior Advisor @ IIT Mandi Catalyst was one of the speakers at TEDx Dharamshala.He spoke on Re-Imagining Entrepreneurship.Saurabh is Head of Leadership Development and coaching at Fractal Analytics. Mentor Series: Patents & IP Catalyst Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights, Patents, Trademarks and Innovation Life-cycle Management by Sneha Kanitkar, Patent Attorney A full day workshop on various aspects of intellectual property rights covering areas such as Patent, Trademarks, Copyrights, Designs, Geographical Indicators etc was organized by IIT Mandi catalyst on 10th November 2017 by Ms. Sneha Kanitkar.
Mentor Series: Startup Legal Catalyst Keynote Session on Setting-up a Company by Mr. Aditya Shamlal, Partner, Gamechanger Law Advisor, on 26th October 2017at IIT Mandi. A chance to learn about incorporating a company, technology contracts, corporate contracts and fundraising transactions. Good opportunity for Faculty Members and Research Scholars to understand the legal process of starting their own company, commercializing technologies and corporate engagement. Aditya is a partner at Gamechanger Law Advisor. Aditya has advised multiple start-ups and SMEs on their fund raising transactions, commercial transactions and contracts, incorporation, terms of service, privacy policy, employment agreements, exchange management related requirements and much more. Aditya is also legal advisor to IIT Mandi Catalyst and its incubate companies.
Mentor Series: Product Design Catalyst Keynote Session on Product Design by Mr. Aakash Kumar, Associate Director, Make My Trip was organized at IIT Mandi on 14th October,2017. Audience members had a chance to learn about the Product Design profession and interact with an industry leader with strong experience designing some of the most successful web products in India.
Mentor Series: MVB Boot Camp methodology A two-day workshop on MVB Boot Camp methodologyby Mr. Vishwanathan S, Co – founder & VP, FORGE Innovation Accelerator was organized at IIT Mandi on 4th& 5thOctober, 2017.In this two days workshop he shared the rationale behind the MVB framework. Startup teams went through the MVB Boot Camp methodology and refined their value propositions and business models.
Himalayan Startup Trek, July 8-9th IIT Mandi Catalyst will host the first edition of 'Himalayan Startup Trek' on July 8-9, 2017. Catalyst invites early stage startups with technology based business ideas from Pan-Himalayan region to attend the event. This event will feature a two day boot camp at IIT Mandi Campus which will also include a pitching competition winners of which will be offered a place in incubation/exploration program at Catalyst.
Tedx IIT Mandi - Event date:14th May Mr. Sachin Gupta, CEO and Co-founder-HackerEarth spoke on the starting up in college- "What, When and how".This was followed by a talk on likelihood of impending war in this changing world by Maj. Gen. G.D Bakshi,retired army officer and editor in chief DSA magazine. Then a minimal talk by Mr.Chirag and Sahil, founders of "The Minimalist" and finally the event culminated by an encapsulating talk on "Hero's journey" by Mr. Devanshu, a filmmaker, and National Award winner.
Catalyst Mentor Series Speakers: Mr. Shashank Randev, Director of Z Nation Lab and Venture Partner at Zsolt Capital Venue: South Campus, IIT Mandi Event date: 13th and 14th May. Mr. Shashank mentored the teams on how to approach seed investment, how to refine business plan for a new start up. He also gave tips on how to proceed with big corporate players in the market that make a difference. Dr.Amarjeet Singh, CTO and Co-founder Zenatix Delivered an engaging session with the Faculty members and also organized a mentoring session with supported start up teams.
Catalyst Launch IIT Mandi Catalyst was launched as the first DST sanctioned incubator in Himachal Pradesh in May 2016 in presence of Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, IIT Madras.
